For written subtitles the standard is shared and one file serves the whole country. The differences between northern and southern Vietnamese are most audible in pronunciation, with some vocabulary variation, and they matter far more for voice over than for subtitling. Where content is strongly regional in tone we will raise it.

That is what the final check is for. Vietnamese stacks a vowel mark and a tone mark on the same character, and both sit above the line, so tight subtitle line spacing can clip them — in which case the word on screen is a different word, not an untidy one. We confirm the file in the environment it will play in, and where a platform cannot be relied on to substitute a font that carries the full character set, burnt-in captions settle it at delivery.

A short video is normally back with you inside 24 to 48 hours. From there it depends on whether we transcribe the Vietnamese audio before we translate, the number of formats leaving with the job, and the length of the finished cut. Your project manager gives you a firm date at the start.

Confirming that the diacritics survive the journey to the player is part of the work; it also turns on running time, transcription, SDH or burnt-in delivery, and the count of output formats. Where you already hold a transcript or SRT, we spot from that, checking that the Vietnamese characters have survived whatever encoding the file has been through — stripped or mangled diacritics are the most common thing we find. A rough cut is fine — we would rather quote on what exists than wait for picture lock and lose a week of your schedule.
