About Russian transcription
Accurate Russian transcripts, produced by native transcribers
Russian has around 145 million native speakers, with roughly 65 million more using it as a second language. For transcription, stress is what matters most. It is unpredictable, it is not marked in ordinary written Russian, and it changes meaning: за́мок and замо́к are written identically without the accent mark but mean “castle” and “lock”.
A transcriber working from audio has to resolve that from context, along with the reduction of unstressed vowels, which makes words sound less distinct than they look on the page.
At GoLocalise, we work with native Russian transcribers matched to the subject matter of each recording. We manage every stage, from the initial file review through transcription and quality checks to final delivery, so the transcript you receive is ready to use rather than a draft to clean up.

Three ways to transcribe the same recording
The right one depends on what the transcript is for. If you are not sure, tell us the use case and we will recommend it.
Full verbatim
Every wordRecords every spoken detail, including pauses, filler words, repetitions and hesitations, exactly as they occur.
Best for
Legal material, academic interviews, research discussions
Edited
Clean readRemoves redundant words and hesitations while keeping the meaning and the speaker's intent fully intact.
Best for
Corporate meetings, interviews for publication, content to be translated
Summarised
Key pointsCondenses the discussion into structured key points rather than a full record of the conversation.
Best for
Executive briefings, legal summaries, research documentation
What's included
What comes with every Russian transcript
Timecodes
Stamped at the interval you need — per speaker turn, per paragraph or at fixed intervals.
Speaker identification
Every turn attributed, by name where you supply them or by role where you don't.
Proofreading pass
A second native linguist checks the transcript against the audio before it reaches you.
Your format
Word, PDF, plain text, Excel or a subtitle-ready file. Tell us what the next step is.
Bilingual delivery
Russian and English side by side, for international teams and legal proceedings.
Your house style
We follow your corporate style guide or legal formatting requirements if you have one.
How it works
Your project manager has everything covered
A structured workflow, built so that accuracy and confidentiality are checked at every stage rather than assumed at the end.
Brief review
We review your audio or video, the number of speakers, and what the transcript is for, so the format matches the use.
Transcriber assignment
We match your file to a native Russian transcriber with experience in the relevant subject area, whether legal, medical, technical, or corporate.
Transcription and quality checks
The transcript is produced and then checked against the source audio for accuracy, speaker attribution and consistent formatting.
Delivery
Your transcript in the format you need, on budget and on time.
For high-volume work such as conferences or multi-day proceedings, we assign a dedicated team and agree milestones up front.
Who we work with
Industries that depend on Russian transcription
Documented speech is a compliance requirement in some sectors and an accessibility one in others. These are the briefs we see most.
Corporate & finance
Board meetings, financial statements and international negotiations.
Legal & compliance
Hearings, arbitration and contracts, formatted to the standard your case requires.
Media & entertainment
Interviews, film scripts, documentaries and subtitle templates.
Academic & research
Lectures, thesis interviews and field research.
Technology & AI
Training data and voice-interface development in Russian.
Podcast & content
Show notes, searchable archives and repurposed written content.
Confidentiality
Who hears your audio
Transcription usually means handing over something sensitive: a board meeting, a hearing, an unpublished interview. So the honest answer to who hears this matters as much as the accuracy.
Your files are uploaded through an encrypted system, handled by a named transcriber under NDA, and never fed into public speech-to-text tools. We can sign your own confidentiality agreement, work to your retention rules and delete everything on delivery if that is what your policy requires.
Encrypted upload
No loose files over email.
NDA as standard
Yours or ours, before we start.
No public AI tools
Your audio is not used to train anything.
Deletion on request
Files removed on delivery if you need it.
Russian specifics
Why native expertise matters in Russian
Russian is used widely across the former Soviet states, and recordings frequently include speakers from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and the Baltic countries. Regional accents and borrowed vocabulary vary, and we assign transcribers who are comfortable with the variety in your recording rather than assuming one standard covers all of them.
Automatic tools handle clean, single-speaker Russian reasonably well but lose accuracy quickly outside those conditions. Unmarked stress, heavy vowel reduction, and case endings that shift with grammar all produce errors that read fluently, which makes them harder to spot than obvious mistakes.
So we assign by accent and by subject matter, not just by language: legal, medical, technical or corporate. Tell us where the speakers are from and what the recording is about, and that decides who gets the file.

Most common questions
Verbatim captures everything, including false starts, repetitions and filler words, and suits research, legal material and anything where exactly how something was said matters. Clean read removes those elements to produce a more readable document, which works better for corporate meetings, interviews intended for publication and content that will be translated afterwards. We confirm which one you need before starting.
