About Polish translation

Polish translation, where a brand name either bends or holds its ground

Polish nouns decline across seven grammatical cases, and that includes names: a product, a brand or a city changes its ending depending on its role in the sentence. Left undeclined — as machine translation defaults to, and as some brand manuals insist on — it reads as foreign text dropped into a Polish sentence.

The decision has to be made before translation starts, not sentence by sentence: does the brand decline like a native Polish word, or is it locked in its original form throughout? Either is defensible, but mixing the two inside one video looks like an error.

At GoLocalise, we work with native Polish translators matched to the subject matter, and every text is reviewed by a second linguist before delivery.

How can we help you?

Your project manager has everything covered

One point of contact from brief to delivery, and a second linguist on every text before it reaches you.

1

Brief review

We go through your source material and agree up front how product and brand names should behave inside Polish sentences.

2

Linguist assignment

Your project goes to a native Polish translator with experience in the relevant field and the right regional familiarity.

3

Translation and review

The text is translated and then checked by a second native linguist for accuracy, consistency, and register.

4

Delivery and layout check

Files arrive in the format you asked for, with names handled the same way in every one of them.

Regional varieties

Poland, and Polish communities abroad

Polish is spoken natively by roughly 40 million people, the vast majority in Poland, with sizeable Polish-speaking communities in the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States and elsewhere in the diaspora.

Standard Polish, based on the variety used in national media, covers business and consumer content across all these markets; regional dialects rarely affect a script written for broadcast or corporate use.

Getting Polish right on screen

Polish brings its own on-screen considerations, and how names behave inside a sentence is the one that decides how the whole script reads.

Seven cases, one decision on brand names

Every noun in Polish — including a product, brand or city name — changes ending depending on its grammatical role. We agree upfront whether your brand declines like a Polish word or stays fixed, then apply that rule consistently.

Consistency across the whole script

Once the case-treatment decision is made, it has to hold for every mention — subtitle, voice-over line and on-screen text alike — or the inconsistency stands out.

Word order shifts, timing doesn't

Polish sentence order is more flexible than English, which helps us fit meaning into a subtitle's character limit without cutting content that matters.

Timed, not dumped

You get subtitle files cued to the picture and scripts with the timings already in them, rather than a document someone else has to finish.

Most common questions

How much does Polish translation cost?

Polish translation is priced per word for text and per minute for audiovisual work, depending on volume, subject matter and turnaround. Deciding how brand and product names are declined does not change the rate — send your files for a free, itemised quote, backed by our Price Match Promise.

Are your Polish translations done by native linguists?

Yes. Native Polish linguists translate every project and a second reviews it for accuracy, consistency and correct case endings — including on any brand or product names carried through the text, which is exactly where an inconsistent or foreign-sounding translation tends to show up first.

Do you provide Polish subtitling and voice over as well?

Yes — Polish translation, subtitling and voice over all come from one in-house team, so the decision on how your brand name is declined is set once at the brief and applied consistently across the translated script, the subtitles and the recorded voice track alike.

What are the seven Polish cases and why do they matter for translation?

Polish nouns take a different ending depending on their grammatical role — subject, object, possessor and so on — across seven cases. It affects ordinary text and brand names alike: a name left undeclined, the way machine translation and some style guides prefer, can read as foreign rather than natural, fluent Polish to a native reader.

Should our brand name decline in Polish, or stay fixed?

Either can work, and we ask this at the brief stage rather than deciding sentence by sentence. A name that declines reads as more natural Polish; a name locked in its original form protects brand recognition across markets. What we avoid is mixing both within one project, which reads as an inconsistency rather than a considered choice.

Do you deliver Polish subtitles and voice-over scripts, not just documents?

Yes — audiovisual is our specialisation, but we are not limited to it. We deliver spotted SRT/VTT files and timed two-column voice-over scripts for video, plus translated documents, articles, marketing copy and technical material whenever your project calls for them, from the same native Polish linguists.

What if our brand name is used dozens of times across a script?

That is exactly why the case decision has to happen before translation, not during it. Once we agree whether the name declines, every appearance across the script, the subtitles and the voice-over follows the same rule automatically, so nothing needs correcting after the fact or looks inconsistent from one scene to the next.

Is standard Polish enough for Polish-speaking audiences abroad?

For most business and media content, yes. Standard Polish, the variety used in national broadcast and print, is understood across Poland and by Polish-speaking communities in the UK, Germany, the US and elsewhere. Regional dialects rarely affect scripted corporate or consumer content, so one script usually serves every market.

How quickly can a Polish translation project be delivered?

Most short documents are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. Word count, subject complexity and the brand-name decision agreed at the brief can move the date, and your project manager will confirm an exact delivery timeline once the brief and source files have been fully reviewed.
