Lithuanian translation services
Audiovisual translation is our specialisation, but our native Lithuanian translators also handle any text — corporate documents, technical and marketing material, articles and eLearning. Lithuanian does not leave a brand name untouched in running text, so we agree how yours is handled before we start.

About Lithuanian translation
Lithuanian will not leave your brand name alone, and there are two ways to deal with that
Lithuanian marks grammar with endings, and the national language commission's rules are explicit that foreign names in running text take Lithuanian endings the same way adapted ones do. A name can stay in its untouched form in brackets or in non-running text — a list, a credit, a caption — but not in the middle of a sentence.
That leaves two routes, and they are both legitimate. Shield the name: put a Lithuanian generic word in front of it so that word carries the case — *programėlė «Acme»*, *kursas «Acme Basics»* — and the brand stays exactly as your brand book requires. Or let it inflect: *Acme's*, *Acme'ą*, with an apostrophe where the name ends in a silent letter.
Each route is paid for somewhere different. Shielding adds words, which pushes subtitle timings, overflows interface boxes and complicates lip-sync. Inflecting keeps the line tight but means the name appears in several written forms across your material, which is the version legal and marketing tend to stop at review. Neither is a problem if it is chosen deliberately; both are expensive if the choice arrives after recording. At GoLocalise it is settled at the brief, and every text is reviewed by a second native linguist before delivery.

How can we help you?
Your project manager has everything covered
One point of contact from brief to delivery, and a second linguist on every text before it reaches you.
Brief review
We review your source material and your audience, and agree up front the decisions this language forces before anyone starts translating.
Linguist assignment
Your project goes to a native Lithuanian translator with experience in your sector, working from an agreed decision on how each brand and product name behaves in a sentence.
Translation and review
The text is translated and then checked by a second native linguist for accuracy, consistency, and register.
Delivery and name check
Files arrive in the format you need, and the review pass checks every brand name follows the route you chose, in the same way, across the whole project.
Regional varieties
Lithuania, and the written standard
Lithuanian is the sole state language of Lithuania, a country of 2,810,761 people at the 2021 census (Statistics Lithuania), and an official language of the European Union since 2004.
Standard Lithuanian covers all commercial, corporate and broadcast work, and it is what we use. There is no meaningful regional split to decide here: the decision that actually affects your material is how proper names behave inside the sentence, and that is a brand decision rather than a geographical one.
Areas of expertise
What we specialise in
From corporate video and eLearning to documentary, advertising and subtitles — always audiovisual, with the treatment of your brand names settled before the first line is written.
Corporate and brand video
Company films and internal communications, written to fit the shot rather than overflow it.
eLearning and training video
Course modules and training films, with terminology kept consistent across the programme.
Documentary and interviews
Factual programming and interviews, where the register shifts between speakers and has to survive the move.
Advertising and social video
Campaigns and short-form video, cut to land inside the time available.
Subtitles and captions
Frame-accurate subtitles kept within a comfortable reading speed.
Voice over and dubbing scripts
Scripts timed to the original, ready for a native voice in the booth.
Built for video and audio
Getting Lithuanian right on screen
Lithuanian asks a question that belongs to your brand team rather than to the translator, and the answer has consequences for timing.
Two routes, and the brand owner picks
A Lithuanian sentence will not carry an untouched foreign name. Either a generic word in front takes the case and the name stays exactly as written, or the name inflects. We show you both on your actual names and you decide.
Shielding costs characters
Adding a generic word in front of every mention lengthens the segment. In subtitles that eats the character budget, in interface text it overflows the box, and in dubbing it moves the sync. It is the safe route for the brand and the expensive one for the timing.
Inflecting costs consistency of appearance
The name appears in several written forms across the material, sometimes with an apostrophe. It reads naturally to a Lithuanian audience and it is what usually stops a brand review, which is why it is better agreed with the people who run that review than discovered by them.
Timed, not dumped
We deliver spotted subtitle files and two-column voice-over scripts timed to the original — never a loose document that still needs spotting.

Most common questions
How much does Lithuanian translation cost?
Lithuanian translation is priced per word for text and per minute for audiovisual, depending on volume, subject matter and turnaround, with agreeing how your names are handled included as part of the brief rather than billed as an extra step. Send your files and we will come back with a free, itemised quote, backed by our Price Match Promise.
Are your Lithuanian translations done by native linguists?
Yes. Native Lithuanian linguists handle every translation, and a second native linguist independently reviews each text, checking that every brand and product name follows the route you approved rather than changing between files.
Do you provide Lithuanian subtitling and voice over as well?
Yes — Lithuanian translation, subtitling and voice over all come from one team, working to a single glossary throughout. That matters here because the decision about names has a timing consequence, and it is better taken once by people who can see the subtitle budget and the recording at the same time.
Can our brand name stay exactly as it is?
In running text, only if a Lithuanian generic word goes in front of it to carry the grammar — programėlė «Acme», kursas «Acme Basics». Standing on its own in the middle of a sentence it has to inflect. In brackets, lists and credits it can stay untouched, which is why your existing Lithuanian material may look inconsistent for perfectly correct reasons.
Are we required by law to translate or adapt our trademark?
No. The State Language Inspectorate is explicit that registered trademarks are not subject to language requirements. What is at stake is not your trademark but how a Lithuanian sentence is built around it, which is a writing decision rather than a legal one.
Do you deliver Lithuanian subtitles and voice-over scripts, not just documents?
Yes — audiovisual is our specialisation. We deliver spotted SRT/VTT and timed two-column voice-over scripts, plus translated text when you need it.
Which route do you recommend?
It depends on where you can afford to pay. If subtitle timings or interface space are tight, inflecting keeps the lines short. If brand review is strict about the name appearing in exactly one form, shielding does that at the cost of length. We show both on your real names so the trade-off is visible before it is a problem.
What if the decision changes after we have recorded?
Then the affected lines are re-recorded, because the two routes produce different sentences rather than a different spelling of the same one. It is the main reason we raise this at the brief instead of treating it as a detail for the review stage.
How quickly can a Lithuanian translation project be delivered?
Most short documents are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. Word count, subject complexity and turnaround all move the date, and your project manager will confirm the timeline at the start.
What do you need from us to quote Lithuanian translation?
Less than people expect: the document, script or subtitle file, its word count, what the text is actually for, and the date you need it by. A draft is fine — we would rather quote on what exists than wait for a final version that eats your deadline. A named project manager comes back with an itemised quote, normally within four working hours.
How quickly will we hear back, and who will we be dealing with?
More than half of enquiries get a reply within thirty minutes during office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm UK time), and the itemised quote normally follows within four working hours. After that you have one dedicated project manager who owns the job from brief to final file — not a ticket queue, and not a different name on every email. If it is easier, call +44 207 095 5730 and ask for them by name.
We are still pitching and the budget is not signed off. Can we still get a Lithuanian quote?
Yes, and it is one of the commonest reasons people get in touch. Tell us it is for a pitch and you get a figure you can put in front of your own client, itemised so it stands up to being picked apart, with no obligation and no follow-up sales calls if the pitch goes elsewhere. If it lands, the quote still holds and we already know the project.
