Indonesian translation services
Audiovisual translation is our specialisation, but our native Indonesian translators also translate any text — corporate documents, technical and marketing material, articles and eLearning. Indonesian has two words for we, and picking the wrong one changes who your message is about.

About Indonesian translation
Indonesian translation, with the two words for we kept straight
Indonesian splits the English we in two. Kami excludes the person listening; kita includes them. English makes no such distinction, so every we in your source is a decision that somebody has to take.
The word appears in almost every line of brand copy — we believe, we are here for you, we will be in touch — and getting it wrong does not produce a grammatical error. It produces a sentence that quietly puts the customer on the wrong side of the message, and no automated check will catch it.
At GoLocalise, we work with native Indonesian translators matched to the subject matter, and every text is reviewed by a second linguist before delivery.

How can we help you?
Your project manager has everything covered
One point of contact from brief to delivery, and a second linguist on every text before it reaches you.
Brief review
We review your source material and your audience, and agree up front the decisions this language forces before anyone starts translating.
Linguist assignment
Your project goes to a native Indonesian translator with experience in the relevant field.
Translation and review
The text is translated and then checked by a second native linguist for accuracy, consistency, and register.
Delivery and consistency check
Files are delivered in the format you need, with the choices agreed at the brief applied consistently from the first line to the last.
Regional varieties
Indonesia, and how formally you want to speak
Indonesian is the official language of Indonesia and has one written standard, so the variety question is smaller here than in many languages. What is not small is the level of address.
Anda is the formal you and kamu the informal one, and the choice is normally set per product rather than per sentence. We agree it at the brief, because a file that moves between the two reads as though two people wrote it.
Areas of expertise
What we specialise in
From corporate video and eLearning to documentary, advertising and subtitles — always audiovisual, with the inclusive and exclusive we settled before the first line is written.
Corporate and brand video
Company films and internal communications, written to fit the shot rather than overflow it.
eLearning and training video
Course modules and training films, with terminology kept consistent across the programme.
Documentary and interviews
Factual programming and interviews, where the register shifts between speakers and has to survive the move.
Advertising and social video
Campaigns and short-form video, cut to land inside the time available.
Subtitles and captions
Frame-accurate subtitles kept within a comfortable reading speed.
Voice over and dubbing scripts
Scripts timed to the original, ready for a native voice in the booth.
Built for video and audio
Getting Indonesian right on screen
Indonesian brings its own on-screen considerations, and the two words for we are the one that changes the meaning without changing the grammar.
Kami or kita, decided per line
The inclusive and exclusive forms are not interchangeable. A translator who knows the brand relationship picks the right one every time, rather than defaulting to whichever fits the rhythm.
Anda or kamu, decided once
Formality is set per product at the brief, not per sentence, so the file speaks to the viewer the same way throughout.
No automated check will catch it
A wrong kami or kita is grammatical. It is caught by a second native linguist reading the text, which is why every file gets one.
Timed, not dumped
We deliver spotted subtitle files and two-column voice-over scripts timed to the original — never a loose document that still needs spotting.
Deliverables
How your Indonesian translation arrives
Subtitle files
SRT, VTT, STL or TTML, burnt in or as separate files, ready to drop into your edit.
We kept on the right side
Every inclusive and exclusive form is checked against who the line is actually about, instead of being copied across from the English.
Dual-column scripts
Source and target side by side with timecodes, the format the studio records from.
Reviewed, never single-pass
Every script is checked by a second native linguist before it reaches the studio.

Most common questions
How much does Indonesian translation cost?
Indonesian translation is priced per word for text and per minute for audiovisual, varying with volume, subject and turnaround. Send your files for a free, itemised quote, backed by our Price Match Promise.
Are your Indonesian translations done by native linguists?
Yes. Native Indonesian linguists translate and a second reviews every text, so it reads naturally and speaks to your audience the way you intended.
Do you provide Indonesian subtitling and voice over as well?
Yes — Indonesian translation, subtitling and voice over from one team, with the same register and the same choices applied across all three.
What is the difference between kami and kita?
Kami means we and not you; kita means we including you. English has one word for both, so every we in your source has to be assigned to one or the other. In brand copy it decides whether the customer is inside the sentence or being spoken to from outside it.
Would a spellchecker catch the wrong one?
No, and that is the point. Both are correct Indonesian, so the error survives every automated check and only shows up when a native reader gets to it. It is one of the reasons every file is reviewed by a second linguist.
Should we use Anda or kamu?
It depends on the product and the audience, and it is normally set once rather than sentence by sentence. Tell us the tone you want at the brief and we will hold it across the whole project.
Can we reuse our Malay material for Indonesia?
We would not recommend it. Standard Malay and Indonesian have separate language authorities and enough everyday vocabulary differences that a reader notices. If you need both, we treat them as two projects.
Do you deliver Indonesian subtitles and voice-over scripts, not just documents?
Yes — audiovisual is our specialisation. We deliver spotted SRT/VTT and timed two-column voice-over scripts, plus translated text when you need it.
How quickly can an Indonesian translation project be delivered?
Most short documents are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. Word count, subject complexity and turnaround all move the date, and your project manager will confirm the timeline at the start.
