Greek translation services
Audiovisual translation is our specialisation, but our native Greek translators also translate any text — corporate documents, technical and marketing material, articles and eLearning. Greek in capitals drops its accent, and that is a typesetting rule, not a typo.

About Greek translation
Greek translation, with the headline in capitals handled as a rule and not a typo
When Greek is set fully in capitals, the accent is not written. Not as a preference: it is the general rule of the language, with narrow exceptions such as the dialytika, which stays. A Greek headline, button or menu item in capitals that keeps its accents reads as an error.
Under it sits a second decision. Greek nouns, articles and adjectives change ending according to their function in the sentence, so an English string built around a variable — welcome to {city}, delete {name} — cannot be filled in. The sentence has to be rebuilt around the form the word actually takes.
At GoLocalise, we work with native Greek translators matched to the subject matter, and every text is reviewed by a second linguist before delivery.

How can we help you?
Your project manager has everything covered
One point of contact from brief to delivery, and a second linguist on every text before it reaches you.
Brief review
We review your source material and your audience, and agree up front the decisions this language forces before anyone starts translating.
Linguist assignment
Your project goes to a native Greek translator with experience in the relevant field.
Translation and review
The text is translated and then checked by a second native linguist for accuracy, consistency, and register.
Delivery and consistency check
Files are delivered in the format you need, with the choices agreed at the brief applied consistently from the first line to the last.
Regional varieties
Greece and Cyprus
Greek is official in Greece and Cyprus, and for written commercial material one standard version serves both. The differences a viewer notices are mostly in speech rather than on the page.
If your material is aimed squarely at Cyprus, tell us at the brief and we will have it reviewed for local usage. It is a light pass, not a separate translation.
Areas of expertise
What we specialise in
From corporate video and eLearning to documentary, advertising and subtitles — always audiovisual, with Greek uppercase and declension handled before anything reaches layout.
Corporate and brand video
Company films and internal communications, written to fit the shot rather than overflow it.
eLearning and training video
Course modules and training films, with terminology kept consistent across the programme.
Documentary and interviews
Factual programming and interviews, where the register shifts between speakers and has to survive the move.
Advertising and social video
Campaigns and short-form video, cut to land inside the time available.
Subtitles and captions
Frame-accurate subtitles kept within a comfortable reading speed.
Voice over and dubbing scripts
Scripts timed to the original, ready for a native voice in the booth.
Built for video and audio
Getting Greek right on screen
Greek brings its own on-screen considerations, and the one that catches most projects only shows up once the text is set.
Capitals drop the accent
A title, a lower third or a button set in capitals is written without the tonos. An automatic uppercase transform that leaves the accents in has to be corrected.
The dialytika stays
The rule is not simply remove every mark. The dialytika survives uppercasing, and there are narrow cases where an accent does too — which is why a Greek reader looks at it.
Variables need the sentence rebuilt
Nouns change ending by function, so a string with a slot in it cannot be filled in. We rework the sentence instead of leaving a form that does not agree.
Timed, not dumped
We deliver spotted subtitle files and two-column voice-over scripts timed to the original — never a loose document that still needs spotting.
Deliverables
How your Greek translation arrives
Subtitle files
SRT, VTT, STL or TTML, burnt in or as separate files, ready to drop into your edit.
Uppercase checked, not transformed
Any text that will appear in capitals is checked as it will be seen, rather than left to a CSS transform that does not know the rule.
Dual-column scripts
Source and target side by side with timecodes, the format the studio records from.
Reviewed, never single-pass
Every script is checked by a second native linguist before it reaches the studio.

Most common questions
How much does Greek translation cost?
Greek translation is priced per word for text and per minute for audiovisual, varying with volume, subject and turnaround. Send your files for a free, itemised quote, backed by our Price Match Promise.
Are your Greek translations done by native linguists?
Yes. Native Greek linguists translate and a second reviews every text, so it reads naturally and is set correctly.
Do you provide Greek subtitling and voice over as well?
Yes — Greek translation, subtitling and voice over from one team, with the same typesetting decisions applied across all three.
Why has the accent disappeared from our Greek headline?
Because that is the rule. Greek set fully in capitals is written without the tonos, so a headline, a button or a lower third in capitals loses it. What does survive is the dialytika, and there are narrow exceptions, which is why a Greek reader checks the text as it will actually be seen.
Can we just apply uppercase in CSS?
You can, but it will not always be right. An automatic transform does not know the rule, so it can leave accents in place where Greek would drop them. We check the text in the form it will be displayed rather than assume the transform got it right.
Why can you not just drop our text into the string with the variable?
Because Greek nouns change their ending according to their function in the sentence. A slot filled with a name or a city produces a form that does not agree with the words around it. The fix is to rework the sentence, which is a translation decision and not a find and replace.
Do we need a separate version for Cyprus?
Usually not for written material, where one standard version serves both Greece and Cyprus. If the content is aimed squarely at Cyprus we add a local review, which is a light pass rather than a second translation.
Do you deliver Greek subtitles and voice-over scripts, not just documents?
Yes — audiovisual is our specialisation. We deliver spotted SRT/VTT and timed two-column voice-over scripts, plus translated text when you need it.
How quickly can a Greek translation project be delivered?
Most short documents are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. Word count, subject complexity and turnaround all move the date, and your project manager will confirm the timeline at the start.
