Because Slovak marks gender in the surname. The orthographic rules published by the national language institute form female surnames with -ová, and they prescribe it for foreign names too. It is not a liberty taken with the name: it is how the surname can appear in a Slovak sentence.

Sometimes, and the norm itself allows it — it makes an explicit exception for foreign surnames of well-known performers. The trade-off is grammatical: the unmodified form cannot be declined, so every sentence that mentions the name has to be reworded around it.
