About Armenian translation
A language with a branch and an alphabet of its own
Armenian is the only living member of its own branch of the Indo-European family and is written in an alphabet created for it specifically, in 405 AD by Mesrop Mashtots, still in use today.
At GoLocalise, we establish which form your audience uses before any work begins, then assign a native translator who writes in it. Every text is reviewed by a second linguist before delivery.

Regional varieties
Eastern or Western Armenian?
Modern Armenian exists in two standardised forms. Eastern Armenian is the official language of Armenia and is also used in Iran, Georgia, and across the former Soviet states. Western Armenian is the form used by most of the diaspora, including the communities in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, France, and the United States.
They share the alphabet and a great deal of vocabulary, but they differ in pronunciation, spelling conventions, and grammar, and a text produced in one reads as noticeably foreign to readers of the other.

Eastern Armenian if your audience is in Armenia, Iran, Georgia, or the former Soviet states. Western Armenian if you are addressing diaspora communities in the Middle East, Europe, North America, or Australia. If your content is aimed at both, they generally need separate versions rather than a compromise, and we will tell you when that is the case.
