About Albanian translation
Albanian for the audience you are actually addressing
Albanian is unique since it has no close Indo-European relatives. However, around 7.5 million people speak it across Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and a substantial diaspora.
At GoLocalise, we work with Albanian translators and review every text with a second linguist before delivery.

How can we help you?
Your project manager has everything covered
One point of contact from brief to delivery, and a second linguist on every text before it reaches you.
Brief review
We review your source material and your audience, and agree up front the decisions this language forces before anyone starts translating.
Linguist assignment
Your project goes to a native Albanian translator with experience in the relevant field.
Translation and review
The text is translated and then checked by a second native linguist for accuracy, consistency, and register.
Delivery and consistency check
Files are delivered in the format you need, with the choices agreed at the brief applied consistently from the first line to the last.
Regional varieties
Gheg, Tosk and the written standard
Albanian divides into Gheg in the north, covering Kosovo, North Macedonia, and northern Albania, and Tosk in the south. Standard Albanian is built on Tosk, and it is the written form taught in schools and used in publishing and government on both sides of the divide, which makes it the correct default for almost every commercial project.
Where a project is aimed specifically at Kosovo, we assign translators familiar with the vocabulary and institutional terminology used there.
Varieties we cover
- Standard Albanian (Tosk-based)
- Kosovo Albanian
- Gheg (spoken varieties)
Areas of expertise
What we specialise in
From corporate video and eLearning to documentary, advertising and subtitles — always audiovisual, and always matched to whether your audience is in Albania or Kosovo.
Corporate and brand video
Company films and internal communications, written to fit the shot rather than overflow it.
eLearning and training video
Course modules and training films, with terminology kept consistent across the programme.
Documentary and interviews
Factual programming and interviews, where the register shifts between speakers and has to survive the move.
Advertising and social video
Campaigns and short-form video, cut to land inside the time available.
Subtitles and captions
Frame-accurate subtitles kept within a comfortable reading speed.
Voice over and dubbing scripts
Scripts timed to the original, ready for a native voice in the booth.
Built for video and audio
Getting Albanian right on screen
Albanian brings its own on-screen considerations. Putting it on screen or into a voice-over brings a few language-specific considerations.
Plan for slightly longer text
Albanian tends to run a little longer than English, so we condense subtitles to hit comfortable reading speeds without losing meaning.
Standard Albanian for the region
For written and on-screen use we work in standard (Tosk-based) Albanian, understood across Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia; spoken projects are where dialect choices come in.
Characters that must render
Letters like ë and ç have to display correctly in captions and burnt-in text — we check font support and encoding before delivery.
Timed, not dumped
We deliver spotted subtitle files and two-column voice-over scripts timed to the original — never a loose document that still needs spotting.

Most common questions
How much does Albanian translation cost?
Albanian translation is priced per word for text and per minute for subtitles and voice-over, depending on volume, subject and turnaround. Send your files for a free, itemised quote, backed by our Price Match Promise.
Are your Albanian translations done by native linguists?
Yes. Native Albanian linguists translate into standard (Tosk-based) Albanian and a second reviews every text, so it reads naturally across Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
Can you also handle Albanian subtitling and voice over?
Yes — Albanian translation, subtitling and voice over from one team, so your whole project stays consistent from script to screen.
Do you handle audiovisual Albanian, not just text?
Yes — audiovisual translation is our specialisation: subtitles, captions and voice-over scripts, alongside corporate and marketing text. We deliver edit-ready SRT/VTT and timed scripts.
Which Albanian do you use for subtitles?
For written and on-screen use we work in standard (Tosk-based) Albanian, understood across Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia. Dialect choices mainly come up in spoken projects like voice-over.
Should my Albanian translation be in Gheg or Tosk?
For written material, neither question usually arises: standard Albanian, which is based on Tosk, is the written form used across Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. Gheg is very much alive in speech and in some regional media, but it is not the standard for documents, marketing, or published content. If your project is spoken rather than written, such as a voice over or a dubbing script, the question becomes relevant and we will raise it.
Is Albanian for Kosovo different from Albanian for Albania?
The written standard is shared, but institutional vocabulary, some everyday terms, and a number of loanwords differ, and Kosovo readers notice a text written purely for the Albanian market. Where a project targets Kosovo specifically, we assign a translator based there.
What kinds of Albanian content do you handle?
Any subject matter, delivered for video and audio: subtitles, voice-over scripts, eLearning and corporate film, plus the accompanying text. Whether it is a corporate interview, a training video or a documentary, we translate and adapt it into natural standard Albanian for Albania, Kosovo and the wider region.
How quickly can an Albanian translation project be delivered?
Most short documents are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. Word count, subject complexity and turnaround all move the date, and your project manager will confirm the timeline at the start.
What do you need from us to quote Albanian translation?
Less than people expect: the document, script or subtitle file, its word count, what the text is actually for, and the date you need it by. A draft is fine — we would rather quote on what exists than wait for a final version that eats your deadline. A named project manager comes back with an itemised quote, normally within four working hours.
How quickly will we hear back, and who will we be dealing with?
More than half of enquiries get a reply within thirty minutes during office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm UK time), and the itemised quote normally follows within four working hours. After that you have one dedicated project manager who owns the job from brief to final file — not a ticket queue, and not a different name on every email. If it is easier, call +44 207 095 5730 and ask for them by name.
We are still pitching and the budget is not signed off. Can we still get an Albanian quote?
Yes, and it is one of the commonest reasons people get in touch. Tell us it is for a pitch and you get a figure you can put in front of your own client, itemised so it stands up to being picked apart, with no obligation and no follow-up sales calls if the pitch goes elsewhere. If it lands, the quote still holds and we already know the project.
Ready to start your Albanian translation project?
Send us your documents, script or video and we'll come back with an exact, itemised quote.
