Calling Nepali voice talent
We're expanding our Nepali roster
Nepali is a language we're actively growing. If you're a Nepali voice actor, we'd love to hear your demos and put you forward for paid work.
About the language
A Himalayan language with a long-settled British audience
Nepali is the official language of Nepal, written in Devanagari, and co-official in the Indian state of Sikkim and widely spoken around Darjeeling in West Bengal. That is the market most people expect.
The one they do not expect is Britain. Gurkha regiments have served in the British Army for over two centuries, and after the 2009 change to settlement rights — which allowed veterans who left before 1997 to settle in the UK — substantial Nepali-speaking communities consolidated around the garrison towns. Aldershot and Farnborough above all, along with Folkestone, Ashford and Plymouth.
That produces a use case very few briefs anticipate: UK councils, NHS trusts and community organisations that need material in Nepali for their own residents. The demographic skews older — veterans and their spouses — which is precisely the group least well served by information available only in English, and precisely the group for whom a recorded voice does more than a leaflet.
Back in Nepal, the demand profile is different again and heavily weighted towards NGO, development and disaster-preparedness work, which has been sustained since the 2015 earthquake, along with public health, education and remittance-related financial content.
One clarification worth making early: Nepali shares the Devanagari script with Hindi and a fair amount of vocabulary, and it is regularly assumed to be a variant of it. It is not — it is the language of a different country, with its own standard, and Nepali audiences notice a Hindi read immediately.

Getting Nepali right
What to know before you record
Start by working out which of the two audiences you are actually addressing.
Nepal or the UK
Britain has long-settled Nepali communities around the former Gurkha garrisons, notably Aldershot and Farnborough. Council, NHS and charity briefs are aimed at them, and the register differs from content made for Nepal.
An older UK audience
The British Nepali-speaking population skews towards veterans and their spouses — the group least reached by English-only information. Pace and clarity matter more than polish, and audio outperforms print.
Devanagari does not mean Hindi
Nepali shares the script and some vocabulary with Hindi but is the language of a different country with its own standard. A Hindi read does not pass, and we do not cast across.
NGO work dominates in Nepal itself
Development, public-health and disaster-preparedness content makes up much of the Nepal-facing demand. Terminology consistency across a programme matters more than it does in commercial work.

Most common questions
Regularly, and it is a bigger part of our Nepali work than people expect. Gurkha regiments have served in the British Army for over two centuries, and after the 2009 settlement-rights change, substantial Nepali-speaking communities consolidated around the garrison towns — Aldershot and Farnborough particularly, plus Folkestone, Ashford and Plymouth. Councils, NHS trusts and charities commission Nepali for their own residents.
