Marathi voice over services

Marathi is the language of Maharashtra, spoken by around 83 million people and the third most spoken language in India after Hindi and Bengali. It is also official in Goa, and it is written in Devanagari — the same script as Hindi, which is where most of the confusion starts.

Sharing a script is not sharing a language. A Hindi voice actor can read the letters on a Marathi page and will still not be speaking Marathi. The two are separate Indo-Aryan languages, and the differences are structural rather than cosmetic: Marathi has three grammatical genders where Hindi has two, so agreement runs differently through the whole sentence, and it keeps sounds Hindi lost, including the retroflex ळ and the dental affricates.

That matters commercially more than it might look. Maharashtra has the largest state economy in India, and its capital is Mumbai — the country's financial centre and the home of its film and television industry. Brands routinely skip Marathi on the assumption that Hindi already covers Mumbai. It covers part of Mumbai.

The register question is separate from the language question. Formal Marathi for government, education and public-information work; a lighter conversational read for advertising and digital. Both are the same language, and we direct for whichever the content needs.
