Transliteration

Transliteration is the mapping of text from one writing system into another, letter by letter — for example rendering Cyrillic or Arabic script in the Latin alphabet — so it can be read by people unfamiliar with the original script. It deals with the spelling and characters, whereas transcription deals with the sounds.
