Finnish voice over services

Finnish is one of the two official languages of Finland, spoken as a first language by around 5 million people, with Swedish alongside it as the country's second official language. A native Finnish voice is what makes a campaign feel local rather than imported from elsewhere in the Nordics.

Finnish is not a Scandinavian language at all. It belongs to the Finno-Ugric family, which makes it a relative of Estonian and a distant cousin of Hungarian, and leaves it unrelated to Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. It has fifteen grammatical cases, long compound words and stress fixed on the first syllable — all of which change the rhythm of a read, so timing to picture needs a native ear rather than a Scandinavian one.

Finnish also expands considerably against English. A script that fits comfortably in an English voice over will usually run longer in Finnish, so we flag the timing early rather than discovering it in the studio.
