Open captions
Also called: Burnt-in subtitles, Open subtitles.
Open captions are text rendered permanently into the picture rather than carried as a separate file. They cannot be switched off, restyled or swapped for another language.
They are what social platforms and in-feed video usually need, because the player has no subtitle track. The trade-off is that one burnt-in language means one video file per language.
